Delivery Day 2025
On July 22, 2025, CSHH received the spat-on-shell oyster delivery from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk shellfish hatchery. Dozens of volunteers helped to distribute the approximately 75,000 spat-on-shell oysters across all four oyster gardening locations: Hempstead Harbour Club, North Hempstead Beach Park, Tappen Marina, and Sea Cliff Yacht Club.
A big THANK YOU to all of the volunteers, without whom this day would not have gone so well!
Starting next week, teams of volunteers will gather at each of the four locations and work together to clean the cages and oysters as well as measure oyster growth. In late September, the oysters will be “planted” in a nondisclosed conservation management area in Hempstead Harbor.
