Water We Going To Do?

On November 19, CSHH attended the 8th Annual Clean Water Conference. Emerging contaminants were discussed as part of the long list of issues addressing the conditions affecting our drinking-water supply and our surface waters. As part of the panel discussion, Ty Fuller (Suffolk County Water Authority) and Adrienne Esposito (Citizens Campaign for the Environment) focused on the challenges of dealing with removal of 1,4-dioxane from the water supply and limiting its use in consumer products. 1,4- dioxane is a byproduct of ingredients used as solvent stabilizers in common household products, such as body washes, shampoos, dish soap, and baby products. 1,4-dioxane is a known carcinogen, and pathways of exposure include inhalation, swallowing contaminated water, and skin absorption...
